What to Watch for in Siemens Earnings

  • Digital Industries orders: Following the rebound in second-quarter orders, the key debate is whether the recovery is sustainable. Results from ABB and Schneider Electric suggest demand has continued to improve, reducing concerns that the second-quarter strength merely reflected customer pre-buying. We are encouraged by the recovery in China.
  • Margin resilience: We expect Siemens to largely protect margins in Digital Industries and Smart Infrastructure from higher commodity costs. However, pricing power is likely to vary across divisions, with Mobility appearing the most exposed in the near term given the longer duration of its contracts.
  • Data center growth: Investors will focus on whether Siemens can sustain the triple-digit data center growth reported in the second quarter. While the company has additional opportunities to benefit from adjacent offerings such as cooling and industrial automation, these are more likely to be medium- to long-term growth drivers than meaningful contributors in the near term.
