Diageo’s DGE third-quarter 2026 trading update included an organic net sales increase of 0.3% and a volume increase of 0.4%. All regions reported growth except North America and Asia-Pacific. With results ahead of market expectations, shares rose around 5% in early trading on May 6.

Why it matters: As in previous quarters, performance was weakest in the US, with spirits revenue down 15.4% due to a tough prior-year comparison and weakness in tequila, while double-digit growth in Latin America and Africa offset this. Diageo confirmed its fiscal 2026 guidance, which we expect the firm to meet.

  • Diageo was vague about the expected impact from the Middle East conflict; however, we expect any headwinds in fiscal 2026 to be offset by FIFA World Cup activations, with third-quarter sales in the Americas boosted by early distributor buy-in.
  • Guinness stayed the star of the portfolio, driving 8.8% growth in Europe. We expect Guinness momentum to continue as Diageo invests in capacity expansion and driving sales in markets with low levels of penetration.

The bottom line: We lower our fair value estimates to GBX 1,840/USD 100 from GBX 2,140/USD 116. The decrease stems from a reduction in our growth projections for North America and a revision of our terminal assumptions. Here, we expect downward pressure on Stage II earnings driven by a negative mix effect from emerging markets expansion.

  • In the US, we expect investment in ready-to-drink formats and price repositioning to appeal to the mass market. However, with pressure on customer wallets, market competitiveness, and potential ripple effects from the Middle East conflict, initiatives may take time to drive a sales rebound.
  • Despite the 16% fair value cut, we view the shares as undervalued. We see investor concern over Diageo’s ability to drive sales amid moderation trends, however, several emerging markets have attractive volume growth runways. Also, we expect spirits to continue taking share from other alcohol categories.
