UK trade deficit widens monthly and year-on-year June - ONS
(Alliance News) - The UK trade deficit widened in June, according to data on Thursday, as exports slid at a faster pace than imports.
The Office for National Statistics said exports fell 2.8% to GBP80.21 billion in June from GBP82.49 billion in May. Imports declined 0.2% on-month to GBP85.74 billion from GBP85.95 billion.
It meant the nation's trade deficit stretched to GBP5.54 billion in June from GBP3.46 billion a month prior.
On-year, the deficit widened from GBP4.11 billion in June 2025.
Exports were up 6.1% on-year in June, from GBP75.62 billion a year prior, though imports advanced at a faster pace of 7.5% from GBP79.73 billion.
Goods exports to the EU were down 7.4% on-month to GBP15.88 billion in June from GBP17.14 billion in May, while imports edged down 0.7% to GBP28.44 billion from GBP28.64 billion. It amounts to a GBP12.56 billion deficit in June, widening from GBP11.50 billion in May.
Goods exports to the US fell 4.9% on-month to GBP5.39 billion from GBP5.67 billion, while imports declined 7.9% to GBP4.87 billion from GBP5.29 billion. It makes for a GBP522 million surplus for June, widening from GBP386 million.
