These funds focus on capital preservation and income generation by investing primarily in fixed income and cash, with a smaller portion (20% to 50%) allocated to equities. These portfolios are designed for investors with a low risk tolerance, prioritizing stability and reliable returns over high growth.

Morningstar uses a five-tier scale (Gold to Negative) to rate funds. For actively managed funds, Gold, Silver, and Bronze ratings are given to funds expected to outperform their relevant category index after fees and risk. For passive strategies, these ratings are given to funds expected to deliver alpha that exceeds either the category median net alpha or zero over the long term.
